Preventive Measures for Flu Outbreaks
09/10/2009 -
The recent outbreak of swine flu has many people wondering what they can do to protect themselves and their families against this virus.
1. The first step that we must take is to look to God for His protection from any attack of illness, or for deliverance if such an attack is already underway.
2. Secondly, we must include a daily life of prayer, Bible study and a life devoted to Christ:
• To understand what God says about healing and Divine health see the Healing Word. To understand what God says about Divine protection please read Psalm 91. Here is an excerpt:
Psalm 91:9-13 (Amplified) [9] Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, [Ps 91:1,14.] [10] There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. [11] For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. [12] They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. [Lk 4:10,11; Heb 1:14.] [13] You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot. [Lk 10:19.]
3. Next we must also cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of flesh and spirit, including all anger, wrath, malice, bitterness or holding of grudges. This painful and wounded approach to living is a cause of spiritual and physical weakness that allows for a break down in the immune system which allows disease and sickness to enter.
4. Forgiving others and repenting to God for our sins is the only way of cleansing ourselves from defilement and allowing the purity of the Spirit of God and the Word of God to flow through our lives washing us clean through and through and giving us defense against the attacks of the enemy.
PRECAUTIONS: Now here also are five simple precautionary measures from the Center for Disease Control (CDC):
1. Clean your hands often. Use soap and hot water and wash for at least 20 seconds — that’s about the amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers (The CDC recommends sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol concentration).
2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth — these are easiest paths for the virus to invade your body.
3. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue away immediately after use, and then clean your hands. If a tissue is not immediately available, cough into your sleeve or elbow, NOT into your hands. (If you cough or sneeze into your hands, you can transfer the virus to the surfaces you touch, potentially exposing those who touch the same surfaces after you.)
4. Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
5. If you do become ill, stay at home to help prevent the spread of the virus.
CHILDREN: If you have children, be sure to take the time to teach them these healthy habits. Good hygiene is one the best weapons we have to limit the spread of the flu, so stay clean to stay healthy!
Here are some hand-washing tips for children:
• Wash your children's hands and face every morning and before bed.
• Children should take a bath/shower every day.
• Wash hands before every meal.
• Use soap and wash hands for at least 30 seconds.
• Teach and encourage them to wash their hands after sneezing.
• Teach them how to sneeze into their sleeve or elbow rather than into their hands.
Sincerely,
Pastors Lawrence and Lisa Marie Fox
